Exercise: Deviding the frame, Balance

For this exercise I am asked to choose six previously taken pictures and work out how the Balance works for each one.
Image 4027, steamengine wheels
The dominent feature in this picture are the three sets of wheels in the foreground
Behind the two on the left is one engine, the wheel on the right covers part of an engine
Behind are a line of trees leaning the picture more to the left

Image 3712, early sunrise over the river Dee
The central feature was towards the winding river in the centre
The eye however is drawn to the over exposed glow of the sunrise
The trees at both edges seem to balance the picture

Image 3584, egg+saltshaker
The picture appears to be balanced towards the right
The lighting also seems to give a left/right effect

Image 3533
The light source centres the picture
The simular size of the two objects give it some balance
However there is contrast of glass/plastic
ancient/modern design
The background unbalances and distracts the image

Image 3444, Brechin Cathedral
The main steeple is dominating the left of the picture, counter balanced by the 2 smaller structures on the right

Image 3319, Buzzard and streetsign
The picture appears balanced as buzzard and sign are of a simular size

So far I had not paid much attention to symmetry and balance in a picture, though I must have done at times semi conciously
